LifeTeen and March for Life Walk 2012
On January 21, 2012, over 2,000 people came together to take a stand for life & speak out for the unborn. The day began with Mass, celebrated by our bishop, Most Rev. Gerald Kicanis, and many priests from around the diocese. The bishop offered a moving homily focusing on the dignity of all human life, from it’s conception until it’s natural end, which received an emotion filled ovation from those in attendance. Teens from Santa Catalina Life Teen served in many different roles for the liturgy, including lectoring, altar serving and offering the prayers of the faithful. Our teens brought friends and family members who joined us on the 4 mile walk following Mass from Saint Augustine Cathedral to Holy Hope Cemetery. Those in attendance peacefully & prayerfully protested the 39 years that abortion has been legal in the United States. At Holy Hope cemetery, 39 members of the group who walked were chosen (one for every year) to place a rose on Rachel’s memorial, erected in Holy Hope by our diocese to remember the over 50 million lives lost due to abortion. As always, we hope that this is the last year that we will have to perform this march, but we as a Church will continue to stand for life, in all it’s forms, especially the most vulnerable.
